What is tattoo removal?

Tattoo removal uses a medically safe laser to break down the ink of the tattoo. This is then absorbed into the bloodstream and passed through the body. It’s a very popular and efficient method for removing unwanted tattoos or even fading colours and designs. Usually, a series of sessions are required as the laser gradually removes the ink.

Here, we explore what tattoo removal is in more detail. But if you’re interested in arranging a free consultation or want to know more about our services, please get in touch.

How does tattoo removal work?

At Surrey Laser Clinic, we use safe medical-grade lasers to effectively remove tattoo ink. The lasers work by sending high concentrations of light into the skin to break the ink up into tiny particles. The body then absorbs this and disposes of it through the immune system. Over time, and after several sessions, the pigment in the tattoo fades.

Where can tattoo removal be carried out?

Laser technology can be used to remove tattoos from many areas of the body, including:

  • Back
  • Legs
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Feet and hands

If you have a tattoo elsewhere, it may be possible to use laser removal but our team will be able to advise during your consultation.

The benefits of tattoo removal

There are a number of benefits of using lasers to remove unwanted tattoos. These include:

  • Safe and efficient procedure
  • Less risk of scarring
  • Minimal pain
  • Tattoos begin to fade after just one session
  • Long-lasting results

What can I expect during treatment?

Before any treatment begins, we’ll complete a full consultation and assessment. During this, we’ll determine your suitability for laser tattoo removal and recommend the best course of action. We’ll also explain everything and answer any questions.

On the day of your treatment, you’ll be required to shave the body area where the treatment is targetting. We’ll give you goggles to protect your eyes and a cream to prepare the skin. The practitioner will then hold a device onto your skin, triggering the laser. Each session takes around 10-30 minutes but this depends on your tattoo and skin type. After each treatment, a gel is applied to protect the skin and over time you should begin to see the tattoo getting lighter.

Got any questions about tattoo removal in Surrey? Perhaps you want to discuss alternative laser therapy treatments around the body? Get in touch today and we’d be happy to answer your queries or arrange a free consultation.

This will depend on the size of your tattoo and how many laser removal sessions are required. We can advise on any costs during your initial consultation.

Yes, at Surrey Laser Clinic, tattoo removal is carried out by one of our experienced and professional practitioners. The laser itself is very safe and is only absorbed by the ink, meaning the skin and tissue around it isn’t affected. There’s also no lasting effects and it’s completely safe for your body to absorb the ink.

Again, this will depend on your tattoo and skin type but typically several sessions are required. We can advise on treatment times after the initial consultation.

Traditionally laser treatment did hurt but, at Surrey Laser Clinic, we use a revolutionary approach that is completely safe and much less painful. We also offer gel and cooling spray to help protect your skin.

When you get a tattoo, ink particles are injected deep into the second layer of the skin which is called the dermis layer. Tattoo removal breaks down the pigment in the skin to reverse the process. It doesn’t matter whether your tattoo is new or whether you’ve had it for many years – the approach, process and expected results are the same.

To achieve the best results consult with your practitioner as you go.

We’re proud to offer our clients the most advanced device available, from the UK’s Number 1 Laser & IPL manufacturer Lynton Lasers.

Other tattoo removal treatments include creams, acid solutions and dermabrasion but laser removal offers a much safer and more efficient treatment. With lasers, there’s also less risk of scarring and infection.
