Thread Vein Removal

Thread Vein Removal – What are they and How we can make them Disappear?

Our Laser therapy goes beyond just hair reduction.

We can also treat thread veins with the laser and have had some fantastic results in doing so.

Thread Veins also known as spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels that appear near the surface of the skin. They are usually red, blue, or purple in colour and often have a branching or web-like pattern.

Thread veins commonly occur on the face, legs, and other parts of the body & are called “thread veins” because they look like fine threads or spider webs.

What Causes Thread Veins?

Thread veins can be caused by various factors, including:

  1. Genetics ~ Some people may be more prone to developing thread veins due to inherited factors.
  2. Aging ~ As we get older, the skin and blood vessels become less elastic, making thread veins more likely to appear.
  3. Hormonal changes ~ Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, menopause, or the use of certain medications can contribute to the development of thread veins.
  4. Sun exposure ~ Prolonged sun exposure can weaken the blood vessel walls and lead to the formation of thread veins.
  5. Injury or trauma ~ Previous injuries or trauma to the skin can cause thread veins to develop in the affected area.
  6. Rosacea ~ People with rosacea, a skin condition characterized by redness and flushing, may also develop thread veins on their face.

While thread veins are typically harmless, some individuals may find them cosmetically undesirable.

Laser treatment uses intense bursts of light to target and fade thread veins. The heat generated by the laser damages the walls of the blood vessels, causing them to collapse and seal shut. This process is known as coagulation.

Multiple sessions may be required for optimal results.  If you want to discuss your options in more detail, please do get in touch and we can talk you through the process.

How often should I leave between laser hair removal treatments?

How often should I leave between laser hair removal treatments?

If you are considering laser hair removal, then this is always a good question to as the technicians when you come into the clinic. They can advise the frequency to get the best results.

You may think that if we can do more in a short space of time then this will get better results. Unfortunately, not, and this is due to the way the hair grows.

The hair goes through a cycle of growth. It starts in the hair follicle and then in the anagen phase it begins to push through the skin and is often visible right at the end of the hair cycle.

We can only work on hairs in the anagen phase. The hair cycle takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks and at any one time there will be 10-15% of your hairs in the anagen phase.

If you were looking for an 80% reduction in your hair growth it will take a minimum of 6 sessions to get there. This is the industry standard as we cannot speed up the hair cycle, there would be no pint doing 6 sessions in 1 month as it would be a waste.

We like to get the patch test done and then 48 hours later do the first treatment; I would always recommend getting that treatment in 48 hours after so the technician can see the skin afterwards.

Why are the face and body appointments further apart?

At the start of your care, we would like to see you every 4 weeks. But if you are having legs, bikini, or underarms, we tend to then spread these out to 6 weeks as the hair growth slows due to follicles being destroyed.

The hair on the face grows quicker though and we can see you every 4 weeks for these. However, if the growth appears more slowly after 4 sessions we may look to spread these out as well.

If you want more information about the frequency of sessions then contact our team and one of the specialists can talk you through it 01932 553118

Does A HydraFacial Make You Peel?

Does A HydraFacial Make You Peel?

This is a common concern and quite rightly so when having any sort of procedure, especially on your face. “Everyone will see I have had something done, what will they think?”

Well, the good news is that you can get amazing and instant results with HydraFacial with no downtime, you can pop out in your lunch break and be back in the office right away. People will notice you look different but in a good way.

The treatment uses a gentle exfoliating method that removes dead skin cells and hydrates the skin, leaving it looking and feeling smoother and more radiant. It is possible to experience slight flakiness or dryness after the treatment, but this is temporary and can be easily managed with moisturiser. We can apply a light moisturiser in the treatment after and we also can give you a hydration skin pack to leave with in order to help.

What to do before and after HydraFacial

Before HydraFacial

  1. Avoid direct exposure to the sun for 24 hours before the treatment.
  2. Refrain from using any retinoid creams for 48 hours before treatment to prevent skin irritation.
  3. Do not wax or shave the treated area at least one day before the treatment.
  4. Inform Rachel or one of the team of any allergies or special medical conditions.
  5. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing.

After HydraFacial

  1. Try not to touch or rub the treated area after the treatment for 12 hours.
  2. Avoid direct sun exposure for 48 hours after the treatment.
  3. Refrain from using any exfoliating products for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  4. It is recommended to avoid applying any make-up or using any skincare products for at least 24 hours after the treatment to let your skin absorb the serums.
  5. Drink plenty of water to help your skin rehydrate after the treatment.
  6. It is essential to use an SPF sunscreen of at least 30 or higher after the treatment to prevent skin damage.

How long should I wait to wash my face after HydraFacial?

We recommend waiting six hours. The reason is the treatment is still working on your skin after you leave, it is penetrating deep in to the dermal layer and will be re building collagen so you don’t want to wash the active ingredients off.

Skin Care Skin Pigmentation

How to treat skin pigmentation?

How to treat skin pigmentation?

What Is Skin Pigmentation?

At Surrey Laser Clinic we don’t just treat hair, but other conditions of the skin as well. We get amazing results with hyperpigmentation. Just have a look at the image here of this client. This is the forehead of one of our clients. The pigmentation darkens immediately after the treatment which is normal and then fades over a few days.

Skin pigmentation refers to the colour of a person’s skin, which is determined by the concentration of a pigment called melanin.

Melanin is produced by melanocyte cells in the skin and helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Skin pigmentation can vary greatly between individuals and can be affected by factors such as genetics, sun exposure, and certain medical conditions.

Abnormal pigmentation can result in conditions such as hyperpigmentation (excess melanin production) or hypopigmentation (lack of melanin production).

How to treat skin pigmentation?

  1. Sun protection: Wearing sunscreen and protective clothing when you’re out in the sun can help prevent further pigmentation.
  2. Topical treatments: Depending on the cause of pigmentation, certain creams or ointments can help lighten the affected area. These may include hydroquinone, retinoids, kojic acid, vitamin C, or arbutin. These help and we do recommend Alumier products in the clinic but don’t always give long term results.
  3. Chemical peels: These treatments involved applying a chemical solution to the face to exfoliate the skin and reduce pigmentation.
  4. Laser therapy: Certain types of lasers can target and break down pigmented cells, leading to more even skin tone. See below for more information.

How does laser therapy work on skin pigmentation?

Laser treatment for pigmentation involves using a specific wavelength of light to target and break down the excess melanin in the skin. This allows the body to naturally eliminate the pigmentation over time and promote the growth of new, healthy skin cells. Laser treatment can also stimulate collagen production, which can help improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. As with all of our laser treatments whether it is hair or pigmentation it is important to note that not all skin types are suitable for laser treatment, and it is essential to consult with our Lynton trained technicians before having treatment,

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Is laser hair removal permanent?

One of the most common questions we get: ‘Is laser hair removal permanent?’

It is not permanent…. however, hear me out we cannot call it permanent as your body always develops new hair follicles albeit at a much reduced rate. We do permanent hair REDUCTION. Which means you barely need to look after it, a lot of our clients are on yearly maintenance appointments to ensure the hair doesn’t grow through. It is better explained with the process.

The process of laser hair removal?

The skin absorbs the laser heat in the hair follicle. The hair follicle is the root where the hair is attached, this is where the hair is anchored into the dermal layer of the skin. Traditional hair removal like shaving and plucking just remove the hair itself and so the hair follicle just produces another hair in its place.

With laser hair removal the follicle absorbs the heat, and the follicle is destroyed meaning a new hair can never grow from there again. Your body does develop new hair follicles over time, but it takes a long time. Which is why our clients only need annual appointments to keep on top of the new hair follicles. Many of them never shave or treat their hair with traditional methods again.

What is alexandrite laser hair removal?

We use ND:Yag and also Alexandrite technology in the clinic providing pain free laser hair removal

Alexandrite laser hair removal uses a laser beam emitting from an Alexandrite crystal to target hair follicles. The laser energy heats up the hair follicles, destroying them and preventing hair growth. This type of laser is effective for lighter skin tones and darker hair colours. Alexandrite laser hair removal is safe, effective, and can provide long-lasting results for the reduction of unwanted hair on various parts of the body.

Is Alexandrite laser hair removal permanent?

The Alexandrite laser is particularly effective for treating large areas of the body, such as the legs and back, and is known for delivering long-lasting results.

Studies have shown that the Alexandrite laser can achieve up to 90% reduction in hair growth after a series of treatments. However, the exact number of sessions required can vary depending on the individual’s hair type, skin tone, and other factors. It is important to undergo the treatment under the supervision one of our Lynton trained technicians to ensure maximum safety and effectiveness.

Chemical Peels

What Is The Purpose Of A Chemical Peel?

What Is The Purpose Of A Chemical Peel?

Here at Surrey Laser clinic one of the most effective non-invasive treatments we provide is a chemical peel. It is easy to perform as our technicians have some of the most in-depth training with Alumier. Once we have identified from a skin consultation the type of peel that will best suit your needs, we can then tailor a peel treatment to achieve your goals.

A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to remove the uppermost layers. This procedure is designed to improve the appearance and texture of the skin, making it smoother, more even-toned, and glowing. Some of the benefits of a chemical peel on your face include:

  1. Reducing fine lines and wrinkles: Chemical peel treatments can stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that helps keep the skin firm and elastic. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At Surrey Laser we get fantastic results with anti-ageing using peels.
  2. Treating acne: Chemical peels can help eliminate acne by removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores. They can also decrease the severity of acne scars.
  3. Reducing hyperpigmentation: Chemical peels can even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots caused by sun damage, aging, or hormone fluctuations.
  4. Smoothing rough texture: Chemical peels can improve the texture of the skin by sloughing off rough, uneven areas and revealing smoother, softer skin.
  5. Boosting radiance: By removing dead skin cells and stimulating cell turnover, chemical peels can help make the skin look brighter and more radiant.
  6. Minimising the appearance of pores: Chemical peels can help tighten and shrink pores, making them less visible and more refined.

What is the purpose of a chemical peel?

The purpose of a chemical face peel is to exfoliate the top layer of skin, revealing a smoother, more radiant complexion. It can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, such as:

  1. Acne
  2. Fine lines and wrinkles
  3. Sun damage
  4. Hyperpigmentation
  5. Uneven skin texture

There are different strengths of chemical peels, ranging from mild to deep. The type of peel used will depend on the specific skin concerns being treated and the individual’s skin type and sensitivity.

How long do the benefits of a chemical peel last?

The benefits of a chemical peel can last anywhere from a few weeks up to several months, depending on the type and strength of the peel, as well as the individual’s skin type and condition. Deeper peels may provide more dramatic results but also require longer recovery time and may only need to be done once or twice a year, while milder peels may need to be done more frequently to maintain the desired level of results. Proper skin care and sun protection can also help prolong the benefits of a chemical peel.

If you want more information about Chemical Peels then contact our team and one of the specialists can talk you through it 01932 553118

The Difference Between A HydraFacial And A Normal Facial

The Difference Between A HydraFacial And A Normal Facial

Is HydraFacial better than a normal facial?

A normal facial is the best right? Easy, relaxing, and relatively inexpensive. Everyone does normal facials, and you can get them pretty much anywhere. This blog is not saying that they are not good, because they are, and they serve a purpose in all our lives. However, as with anything, is there something that we can add to a facial to give us better results?

A normal facial involves cleaning, massaging, and applying masks to nourish the skin. It is a gentle treatment that helps to improve the appearance of the skin by removing dead skin cells and providing hydration.

On the other hand, the HydraFacial is a multi-step skin treatment that uses technology to deliver instant and long-lasting results. At Surrey Laser all of our technicians are fully trained in using the HydraFacial machine and are confident with using it to get the best results. It involves several stages of deep cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and protection. The treatment gives a hydrating, plumping, and more youthful glow to the skin.

The main differences between the two facials are:

  1. Technology: HydraFacial uses a high-grade aesthetic machine to deliver advanced skincare results, while normal facials don’t use any specialised technology.
  2. Intensity: HydraFacial is generally more intense and effective compared to a regular facial.
  3. Customisation: HydraFacial can be customised according to individual skin type and conditions, while normal facials usually offer only a generic skin care routine for everyone.
  4. Time and Cost: A HydraFacial generally takes more time and is more expensive than a regular facial.

What is better than HydraFacial?

A bit of a trick question here because it does depend on the goals of the individual client. If you are looking for a high-grade revamp of the skin to cause long term change in the sub structure of the dermis, then you need to have something more invasive like micro needling which creates micro pockets in the skin to increase collagen production and make the skin look firmer and tighter. Using this in conjunction with HydraFacial gives some of the best feedback we get. You can find out more about this here.

Laser resurfacing is another top-grade facial treatment we do in the clinic and can yield longer term results, again in conjunction with HydraFacial it can be very effective.

What is the difference between HydraFacial and oxygen facial?

  1. Treatment process: In a HydraFacial, a machine is used to remove impurities, hydrate the skin, and infuse it with antioxidants and vitamins. It involves a multi-step process that can take up to 60 minutes, depending on the clients individual needs. On the other hand, an oxygen facial involves the application of a specialised serum containing oxygen, vitamins, and other nutrients to the skin.
  2. Targeted skin concerns: A HydraFacial is suitable for all skin types and can address a range of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, and dullness. It is also a good option for patients with sensitive skin. An oxygen facial, on the other hand, is more suitable for patients with dry or dull skin, as it helps to rejuvenate and brighten the complexion.
  3. Sensations during and after: During a HydraFacial, patients may feel mild suction and pressure, but it is generally considered a painless procedure. The skin may be red or flushed immediately after treatment, but these effects will typically subside within a few hours. In contrast, an oxygen facial is a gentle and relaxing treatment that is unlikely to cause any discomfort or redness.
  4. Frequency of treatments: A HydraFacial can be done on a regular basis, such as once a month to help maintain the health of the skin and address ongoing skin concerns. An oxygen facial, on the other hand, is typically recommended as a one-off treatment or every few months as needed.

In short, the HydraFacial yields longer term results but tends to be more intense, (it is still relaxing). I’m biased as obviously we prefer HydraFacial, but the best thing is to try the different types and figure out what is best for you and your needs.

A normal facial is great, but it won’t necessarily cause longer lasting change in the complexion of the skin. It all depends on your goals and what you want to achieve.

Should I wash before a HydraFacial?

It is generally recommended to wash your face before a HydraFacial to remove any dirt, oil, and makeup that may be on your skin. This will allow for the HydraFacial to penetrate and cleanse your skin more effectively. It is also advisable to not use any exfoliating products or aggressive treatments prior to the HydraFacial.  Have a chat with one of the team beforehand and we can guide you, we cleanse and wash your skin before either way to ensure you are in the best position to get the results you want.

What is HydraFacial & 3 Reasons Why You Should Get One This Summer

What is HydraFacial & 3 Reasons Why You Should Get One This Summer

We have had our HydraFacial machine 6 months now and we know you are loving it. We are so thrilled with the results it gives, and we have heard glowing reports from all of you that have had it.

What is HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a facial treatment that involves a multi-step process to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate the skin. It uses a specialised tool that applies serums and suction simultaneously to remove dead skin cells, impurities, and excess oil from the pores. The treatment can be customized to address specific skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne. The result is smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin with improved texture and hydration. HydraFacial is a non-invasive, painless procedure that takes about 30-60 minutes, and there is no downtime required. It is suitable for all skin types and can be performed regularly to maintain healthy, glowing skin.

Who Should Get A HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is suitable for all skin types and ages. It is ideal for individuals seeking to improve their skin’s appearance and enhance its health. It can help target several skin concerns, including dullness, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, oily skin, and congested pores. It is also suitable for people with sensitive skin as the procedure is gentle and non-invasive. HydraFacial is an excellent option for individuals who want to improve their skin’s health and appearance without undergoing any downtime or discomfort.

Why Is HydraFacial So Good?

  1. Deep cleansing: HydraFacial effectively removes dirt, oil, and sebum from the skin, providing deep cleansing.
  2. Hydration: The facial solution used in HydraFacial includes hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and moisturises the skin, leaving it soft and supple.
  3. Reduces fine lines and wrinkles: HydraFacial uses dermabrasion to exfoliate the skin, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  4. Skin brightening: The facial solution used in HydraFacial contains Vitamin C which brightens the skin and gives it a radiant glow.
  5. Reduces pore size: HydraFacial effectively removes dirt and oil from the skin, which reduces the size of pores.
  6. Helps with acne: HydraFacial purifies the skin and removes impurities, which can help prevent acne breakouts.
  7. Customisable: HydraFacial can be customized to meet the individual needs of each client based on their skin type and concerns.
  8. Non-invasive: Unlike other facial treatments like microdermabrasion, HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment that does not require any downtime.

Why Is Summer A Great Time For HydraFacial?

HydraFacial can be done at any time of the year, regardless of the season. It is a gentle and non-invasive procedure that targets common skin issues such as acne, fine lines, and wrinkles, dehydration, and hyperpigmentation. Summer is particularly good as it tends to be drier and your skin is often better in the summer rather than winter where your skin could be dry and in need of care. The summer we can hitchhike on the back of great skin and improve the results even more.

How long does HydraFacial last?

The HydraFacial treatment typically lasts for around 45-60 minutes. The results are immediate and can last for several weeks, but it is recommended to undergo a treatment once a month for best results. You will notice the post treatment glow straight away and people will comment on how your skin looks immediately. To get long term results once per month for several sessions is advised, your technician can prescribe a plan for you based on your goals.

Why Should Men Get Laser Hair Removal?

Why Should Men Get Laser Hair Removal?

There is no hiding from the fact that most of our clients are ladies. We are starting to see a lot more men and it is amazing to see the results we are getting.

Men tend to get hair in different place due to the increased levels of testosterone in their bodies. Men will grow more hair on the chest, back and face.

Why should men get laser hair removal?

  1. Improved aesthetics: Men who have excessive or unwanted body hair may not feel confident in their appearance. Laser hair removal can provide a smoother, more groomed look, which can enhance self-esteem.
  2. Enhanced athletic performance: Swimmers, cyclists, and other athletes who require streamlined body profiles may benefit from laser hair removal. Hair-free skin can reduce drag and increase efficiency during physical activity.
  3. Reduction of ingrown hairs: Men who suffer from ingrown hairs as a result of shaving or waxing can find relief through laser hair removal. The heat from the laser destroys hair follicles, which prevents hair growth and reduces the likelihood of ingrown hairs.
  4. Improved hygiene: Hair in certain regions of the body can trap bacteria and sweat, resulting in unpleasant odours and infections. Laser hair removal can reduce the amount of hair in these areas, making cleaning easier and reducing the risk of infection.
  5. Convenience: Laser hair removal provides a semi-permanent solution to hair removal. Men who are tired of constantly shaving or waxing can save time and money by opting for laser hair removal.

Beard shaping with laser hair removal

One of the most common areas we treat for men is the beard. Very often men must shave once per day or even twice on their face and this can create razor burns or sometimes folliculitis which is where the hair follicle gets inflamed and red. This is not good for day-to-day activities as often people will question what has happened to your face. It can be embarrassing to have to explain.

Beard shaping for men with laser hair removal involves using a medical laser to selectively target and remove unwanted hair from the beard area. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, which destroys the hair follicle, thereby preventing further hair growth. We sometimes remove some of the beard to shape and design it, or the whole thing if the client doesn’t want any hair on the face.

The laser treatment is precise, and it can be used to shape and contour the beard according to the patient’s preferences.

Before the laser hair removal procedure, the patient should shave the beard area thoroughly to ensure that the laser energy is focused on the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface. The treatment can be customised to suit the patient’s skin type, hair color, and beard density.

The recovery time after laser beard shaping is minimal, and most patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment. Some patients may experience minor redness, swelling, or irritation in the treated area, which usually resolves within a few hours to a few days.

In conclusion, laser hair removal can effectively shape and contour the beard area for men who want a clean, well-defined look. The procedure is safe, effective, and minimally invasive, with minimal downtime, making it an attractive option for men looking to improve their appearance.

If you want more information about which type of laser is going to be right for you then contact our team and one of the specialists can talk you through it 01932 553118

Why Is Facial Hair Removal So Popular?

Why Is Facial Hair Removal So Popular?

We see a lot of our clients coming in for facial hair removal. It is often looked upon as a manly feature. But all women will have hair on their face at some stage in their life, it just depends on the texture and color of the hair as to whether you notice it. We all have hair follicles on our chin and face whether we are female or male.

The reason men have more pronounced facial hair is because of an increase in testosterone. Women also have testosterone in their body and when there is an imbalance in the hormonal system this can create an increase in noticeable hair on a woman’s face. The important thing to remember is that this is usually normal and your body may be going through changes such as stress, pregnancy, or menopause. In some cases, such as adrenal gland disorders or polycystic ovary disease this needs to be looked at by a professional before we can treat you. But in most cases of PCOS we treat the hair very successfully.

Facial hair laser hair removal is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a laser light to remove hair from the face permanently. The procedure targets the hair follicles and damages them, inhibiting hair growth. The laser selectively targets hair while avoiding damage to the surrounding skin. This procedure can be used to remove facial hair, including hair on the chin, upper lip, cheeks, and neck. It is an effective treatment option for individuals who want to avoid the inconvenience of regular shaving, tweezing, or waxing.

How effective is facial laser hair removal?

Facial laser hair removal is highly effective for reducing and eliminating unwanted facial hair. It uses a concentrated beam of light that penetrates the skin and damages the hair follicles, leading to less hair growth over time. However, the effectiveness of the treatment may vary depending on factors such as skin type, and hair colour. Multiple treatments are usually required to achieve optimal results, and some people may experience temporary side effects such as redness or mild discomfort. Overall, facial laser hair removal is generally considered to be a safe and effective permanent hair reduction method.

Is facial laser hair removal painful?

We use a Motus AY system that uses Alexandrite and Nd:Yag technology. The Moveo handpiece provides a pain free solution to lar hair removal on the face however can take several more sessions. The Nd:Yag does produce some discomfort as we go through the treatment plan and we are trying to increase the intensity of the laser to eliminate all the hair follicles.

Do I have to shave my facial hair before laser hair removal, and if I do, won’t that make the hair grow in thicker and darker?

It is generally recommended to shave the area being treated for laser hair removal prior to the appointment. This is because the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicles. If the hair is too long, the laser may not be as effective in targeting the follicle.

Shaving does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. This is a common myth. When you shave, you are cutting the hair off at the surface level. This does not affect the hair follicle or the way the hair grows.

However, if you have concerns about shaving, you can discuss your options with your laser technician. They may have alternative recommendations for hair removal or be able to address any concerns you have.

If you want more information about which type of laser is going to be right for you then contact our team and one of the specialists can talk you through it 01932 553118
